Black lives matter.

Updated: Aug 15, 2021

SGCR stands in solidarity with those protesting the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless others who have lost their lives to racial violence.

There must be an end to the structural racism that has allowed a culture of corruption and violence to go unchecked, and has devalued and oppressed so many black lives.

As advocates for climate justice, we envision a radically different future: one where all systemic injustices are removed. This cannot happen without all of us coming together to speak out and commit to ending racism, both in Singapore and around the world.

We recognise that the environmental movement worldwide has often failed at being racially inclusive, and we apologise for our shortcomings as a movement even as we strive to create a safe space for marginalised communities in our organisation, campaigns and messaging. As we continue with our work in solidarity with comrades worldwide, we promise to continue learning and to do better to include minority races and centre them.

Being anti-racist in Singapore means both speaking up against everyday racist microaggressions as well as exercising our political voice and voting for the change we want to see.

There are many others who have created resources on how we can deal with racism both globally and locally. Please follow the tags on each of the following pages or in our caption to see the full resource and accompanying captions: https://www.instagram.com/p/CA9FAjalg9z/
